Mystic Iran: the unseen world

Sunday, October 28th, 2007

This film by Aryana Farshad is a beautiful exploration of mysticism in Iran from Islam to Zorastorism to Sufism.  Much of the film follows a pilgrimmage by a group of women dervishes.  The cinematography is beautiful and the message is one of hope and tolerance.  I highly recommend this film.

From Wikipedia:

A Chinese wuxia television series broadcast in China in 2001. It is based on the epic novel The Smiling, Proud Wanderer, written by Louis Cha.  Marital arts clans hankering for supremancy in their world intrigue and  fight each other using their highly gifted martial arts skills.  My favorite episode included a duel fought using two types of instruments with dueling musical tones.

"Unhindered by box-office pressures, director Mike Nichols and Emma Thompson turn the most unglamorous topic–the physical and psychological ravages of cancer–into an exquisite contemplation of life, learning, and tenacious, richly expressed humanity."

Rupert Sheldrake - The Sense of Being Stared At

Thursday, October 25th, 2007

From the book cover

Sheldrake summarizes startling new experimental evidence for the reality of telephone telepathy, and shows how readers can do tests for themselves. Combining the tradition of pragmatic experimentation with a refusal to allow science to fall into dogmatism, Sheldrake pioneers an intriguing new inquiry into the mysteries of our deepest nature. Rigorously researched, yet completely accessible, this groundbreaking book provides a refreshing new way of thinking about ourselves and our relationships with other people, with animals, and with the world around us.
