		<description>I don't think you have to believe in Mesmer's theories to appreciate the depth of Alan Rickman's performance in this film.  Personally, I spent countless viewings just trying to sort out Mesmer's relationship with his blind patient (as beautifully played by Rickman and Amanda Ooms) and whether he truly loved her or merely regarded her as his greatest accomplishment.</description>
